Meet Catrina

She’s transforming her life, thanks to your support.

“I worked in higher education for a while, and then took some time off to be a stay-at-home mom in 2017.  My daughter just started preschool, and I am really excited to get back to work. I always liked working and having structure.

“I got recommended to Cara, and so I came to the South Side Campus for two weeks. I was really excited to start the full-time program here downtown.

“I expected Cara helped people get back to work, but I didn’t expect it to be an emotional roller coaster or how beneficial that would be for me.

“It is easy to interact with people on a surface level, but then you don’t get to the real meat of who someone really is. I found interacting with people on that level to be very helpful.

“I was a little nervous about Motivations because I am scared of talking in front of people. I was shy as a child, and my mom made a big effort to force me to put myself out there. Cara reinvigorated that feeling by forcing me to put myself out there and share things that I may not have necessarily shared.

“I want to work in a position closely related to people. I like listening to people’s stories. Knowledge is power, but knowledge doesn’t matter if you aren’t able to share it.

“Being empathetic, compassionate and a good listener has changed my life. It’s easy to walk around thinking about what you are going through and not looking from the perspective that other people are going through similar things.

“One thing I’ve learned at Cara is that you don’t know what someone is really going through unless you get to know them. It is a relief to know that people go through the same things that you go through.”
