OUR SUPPORTERS

Fueled by the support of our community's anchors, we rise up

One of our tried and true Cara-isms is “don’t relax” – as in you never know when your opportunity might come, so it’s best to be on your toes and ready to rock. No truer words were said when we think of our anchor partners over the years – one of whom found us after hearing a Chicago nun wax poetic about local poverty on the radio. With these partners under our wings, fueling us with critical resources and critical thinking, we can truly take flight:
A Legacy of Caring
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, one of the largest private charitable foundations in the United States, has been one of Cara’s anchor institutional funders for more than a decade. We are grateful for their steadfast commitment to providing direct service to vulnerable, low-income individuals and families in our work to alleviate poverty in Chicago.
Creating a More Inclusive World
In its commitment to workforce development, Bank of America has earned the distinction as Cara’s second largest corporate funder. Their financial support (nearly $1 million) has resulted in more opportunities for motivated people to get back to work and their investments of time and talent serving our Boards has helped boost our mission.
Making a Difference For Community
JPMorgan Chase is a catalytic investor, contributing nearly $2 million to enhance Cara’s work and the lives and communities of the people we serve; a critical hiring partner, bringing nearly 250 Cara participants into the firm; a social innovator, supporting Cara’s premier social enterprise, Cleanslate; and a skill developer, previously providing lock box training for our participants. Additionally, Chase leaders have held strategic roles, serving on Cara’s Board of Directors.
Fostering Communities
With more than 60 years of philanthropic giving (and more than ten as a dedicated supporter of Cara), the Robert R. McCormick Foundation shares our mission of building stronger communities by improving lives by achieving self-sufficiency. As one of the nation’s leading charitable foundations, the McCormick Foundation has invested more than $1.5 billion in the areas of journalism, education, social services, civic engagement, and veterans’ programs.
